A man reporting headaches landed himself an even bigger headache when he discovered the cause: chopsticks in his brain.

According to The Metro, a Vietnamese man entered the Cuba Friendship Hospital in the city of Dong Hoi, Quang Binh province to report that he was having terrible pains in his brain. Also, his nose was leaking constantly — definitely a less severe complaint than the whole “it feels like there are sticks in my brain” thing, but an issue nonetheless.

Concerned, the doctors decided to run a few tests — and found that he had a pair of chopsticks lodged in his skull. “While the man was initially flummoxed over how he ended up with eating utensils on his mind, he recalled that he’d been involved in a fight five months ago while out drinking,” writes the New York Post. “The patient didn’t remember many details from the brawl, only that someone had stabbed him in the face with an unknown object.”

The Metro notes that the man had gone to the hospital immediately following the fight, but was released soon thereafter. Now, he suspects that the doctors’ initial inspection somehow missed the fact that he had broken chopsticks shoved into his brain. Happens to the best of us, I guess.

Thankfully, surgeons were able to remove the chopstick pieces, and the man is reportedly now in stable condition. Still, if I were in his shoes, I’d probably stick to eating with my hands from here on out.
